A 20 foot wide custom panorama for an new home's entryway.

May 20, 2013  •  Leave a Comment
A couple of months ago, I was asked to come up with a suggestion for a new homeowner's entryway. A stairwell was directly opposite the front door and that wall plus the two side ones offered a great empty canvas. So I decided to go to his favorite surf spot and, over the next couple of weeks find the right day for a great looking sky and light. I...

Victory at Redondo

April 09, 2013  •  Leave a Comment
Today, a pretty serious wind storm descended upon Southern California. 30 to 40 knots wind on the ocean created serious wave action up and down the coast. Wave size was between 7 and 10 feet on the faces. Nothing useable for surf as it was classic "Victory at Sea" conditions but it sure put the piers and breakwaters to the ultimate test. So I head...

Anatomy of a soccer goal in the making

March 01, 2013  •  Leave a Comment
I've been working on several "panoramic story" images for a while now. The idea is to tell a little story that happens over a period of time instead of in one instant on a single image. I've done several on surfing (one of which won the International Epson Panorama award) and here is one I have done on a soccer game. This is a field goal that is ta...

How one form of "art" can provide a spark for another.

February 18, 2013  •  Leave a Comment
The photo of Kristin Martin's lovely 1955 Studebaker I posted a couple of weeks ago was posted by Kristin on her own blog here. In her comments she asked people to "write their own story" about the photo. Jeff Borrowman, the GearHead Skeptic all the way from Calgary Alberta, jumped at the opportunity and came up with a great story. I couldn't resis...

Stormy evening at the Long Beach docks.

February 16, 2013  •  2 Comments
Storms are just awesome. An infinite source of photographic opportunities for those who don't mind getting rain gear on for you... and for the camera! My friend Miguel works at the Long Beach docks so we headed out there looking to shoot some images of his 320HP all wheel drive Subaru STI in action. Here is what we came up with. Bo PS: As always...

One classic from the fifties and one from the sixties.

February 02, 2013  •  Leave a Comment
This week I had the chance to shoot two spectacular but completely different rare automobiles from the sixties. First off was an amazing 1967 Ferrari 365GT. With a ground up restoration under its belt, this car sounded like a beautiful 12 cylinder orchestra. We found a real sweet location up in the valley and caught the late afternoon light just i...

Cars at speed

January 15, 2013  •  Leave a Comment
For the last couple of months I have been working on a custom rig that allows me to shoot cars at what seems like very high speed. This is traditionally a very expensive and time consuming prospect, requiring a chase camera car, blocking off the roads, police escort, etc... This custom built system allows me to do that much faster and much more co...

I had an amazing 2012, really. Lots of cool people were met, lots of fantastic food was eaten and many great photos were taken. As the sun rises on this next one, it looks like this year is going to be even better. I'll lift my glass to you and yours and wish you the very best. Bo.

For the last 8 years, Nick Webber and his buddy Denny Bales have been organizing an annual surf contest designed to gather funds to help support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. This after Denny was diagnosed with the disease. This is an awesome event which always happens the week before Xmas when most people are home for the holidays but not yet...

Exclusive set of 10 panoramic cards for the Palos Verdes Land Conservancy

November 30, 2012  •  Leave a Comment
I am pleased to say that this year's set of panoramas for the PV Land Conservancy is finally done. This is a set of exclusive images that I shoot to benefit the organization. The idea is to feature and celebrate the natural beauty of the peninsula in an unusual wide format. This is a very time consuming process because it requires first identifying...

The Gasoline Girls Car Club

November 18, 2012  •  2 Comments
I met the gasoline Girls a couple of years ago. They are an L.A. based club which consists only of women whose passions revolve around oil, sheet metal, and cast iron. Founded in 2010, the club has evolved a fair bit and I went to see them today as Kristin wanted to have a few photos of the latest incarnation of the group. They were meeting at a l...

Gnarley storm approaching on the Hauraki Gulf

November 13, 2012  •  Leave a Comment
Today I went chasing the Team New Zealand America's Cup giant catamaran, training outside of Auckland. Not an easy task at all since the Kiwis are extremely protective of their boat and they have three chase boats patrolling around the cat to keep overly inquisiting minds from getting too close. So in order to get anywhere near, I resorted to renti...

Laura Dekker, youngest person to circumnavigate the globe solo.

November 11, 2012  •  Leave a Comment
Today was a big day in Auckland harbor. It marked the arrival of Laura Dekker who is the Dutch girl who sailed around the globe by herself at age 16 and 17. She is a bit of a celebrity not only for that incredible feat but also because the Dutch authorities have been very unsupportive of her journey, thinking she was too young to undertake such a r...

Graffiti man Askew One covers Aucklands old tanks

November 10, 2012  •  Leave a Comment
I was walking around the the Wynyard section of downtown Auckland today when a curious sight caught my eye. Right now the wharf were a series of old silo tanks, some of which had been painted with this rally cool graffiti type of art. As I got close I saw that a man was working on the painting. I went and talked to him and it turned to be Elliott O...
